Farmington is a Yellow Ribbon City
Farmington is the first city in the State of Minnesota to receive the honorary distinction of being proclaimed a Yellow Ribbon City. In December of 2008, Farmington received the Yellow Ribbon City award because of the outstanding support displayed by residents and its record of caring for military members and families. The Minnesota National Guard’s Yellow Ribbon City campaign pays tribute to communities with an exceptional record of caring for military members and families through various programs and public works, and honors individuals in these communities who have pledged to uphold this standard for future military members and families. A group of Farmington residents formed the Warrior to Citizen Group which is a cross-functional group of citizens working to create a City that goes over and above to support local service members and their families. The group’s Warrior to Citizen Campaign is being used as a model for other cities across the state.
