Economic Development

The City of Farmington strives to foster an attractive environment for new and existing businesses. The City encourages economic development to provide jobs, increase tax base, and offer convenient goods and services for its residents. 

City staff relies on support and input from the City’s Economic Development Authority (EDA) which is the official decision-making body regarding economic development.

A snapshot of 2013 demographics for the City of Farmington:

  • The population of Farmington is 21,419
  • The median age of a Farmington resident is 31.1
  • Ages 30-39 makes up the largest age category at 18.58% and residents between the ages of 40-49 makes up the second largest age group at 16.26%
  • The City is made up of 50.31% males and 49.69% females
  • 95.11% of the Farmington population has a high school degree or higher while 32.09% have a bachelor’s degree or higher
  • There are 7,189 households in the Farmington
  • The median household income in Farmington is $82,246
  • Of the residents residing in Farmington, 11,922 are employed
  • The median commute travel time is 29 minutes
  • Interstate 35 is four miles from Farmington

Economic Development Strategic Plan

The Economic Development Authority prepared an Economic Development Strategy to guide Farmington’s economic direction for the next three years, building on its strengths to enhance the community’s financial and cultural wealth.

Business Attraction Plan

The Strategic Plan includes a Business Attraction Plan to attract new businesses to Farmington through increased marketing efforts.
