Officers Travis Sundvall and Bosco are pictured in front of the Police Memorial in St. Paul, MN.

Police Officers, Travis Sundvall and Bosco, graduated from the St. Paul Police Handler School on May 27, 2010. The St. Paul school’s 12 week of intensive training course is recognized nationally and around the world, for its ability to teach highly trained canine/officer teams.

The training provided allows the team to offer additional protection services for residents. The dog/handler training program emphasizes:

  • Obedience (sit, stand, stay, crawl, climb …commands are given by voice and by hand from the handler)

  • Agility

  • Perform evidence recovery

  • Building and area searching

  • Tracking (human scent tracking over distance)

  • Criminal apprehension

The Officers will participate in on-going training. Residents will have an opportunity to see the team at upcoming community events and demonstrations.

The K-9 unit is funded in part through a matching grant from the St. Paul Canine Foundation and donations.  Donations are used to support K-9 Unit equipment and training expenses.  If you are interested in making a tax deductible donation, please mail or drop off a check at the Police Department at: 19500 Municipal Drive Farmington, MN 55024.  Call Officer Sundvall with questions, 651-755-9638.
