Solicitors, peddlers, and transient merchants are allowed in Farmington with a license. For-profit sale of products or services requires a license from the City. The City does not endorse any specific product or service by the issuing of a license. Solicitors, Peddlers, and Transient Permits
What is a Peddler?
A Peddler Permit is required for any person with no fixed place of business who goes from house to house, from place to place, or from street to street, carrying or transporting goods, wares, or merchandise and offering or exposing the same for sale, or making sales and deliveries to purchasers. The Peddler Permit can be downloaded and is also available at the Police Department.
What is a Solicitor?
A Solicitor Permit is required for any person who goes from house to house, from place to place, or from street to street soliciting, taking, or attempting to take orders for any goods, wares, or merchandise including books, periodicals, magazines, or personal property of any nature whatsoever for future delivery. The Solicitor Permit can be downloaded and is also available at the Police Department.
What is a Temporary Outdoor Exhibition?
Temporary Outdoor Exhibition Permits are issued to people that would like to block off their street for a period of time. Generally, they are issued for graduation parties and neighborhood parties. This permit regulates hours the event is held and would address any noise concerns. The Temporary Outdoor Permit can be downloaded and is available at the Police Department. Once the permit is approved, contact the Police Department at 651-280-6700 to obtain barricades.
What is a Transient Merchant?
A Transient Merchant Permit is for any person, firm or corporation who engages temporarily in the business of selling and delivering goods, wares, or merchandise within the City, and who, in furtherance of such purpose, hires, leases, uses, or occupies any building, structure, vacant lot, motor vehicle, trailer or railroad car (Ord. 078-66, 7-5-1978; amd. Ord. 078-67, 8-21-1978). The Transient Merchant Permit can be downloaded and is also available at the Police Department.
