Elections

Your right to vote is a precious freedom. Exercising your right to vote is a fundamental privilege of a democratic society! Democracy and the freedom that comes with it can only be preserved through your participation. Stand up and be counted!

Primary Election

Due to the MOVE (Military and Overseas Voter Empowerment) Act, legislation moved the Minnesota Primary Election to August 10, which provides the additional time needed for military and overseas voters to receive their ballots on time.

General Election

The State General Election Date is November 2.

Polling places open at 7:00am and close at 8:00pm.

Who Can Vote?
You can vote if you are ALL of the following:

  • 18 years of age or older on Election Day
  • a US citizen
  • a Minnesota resident for at least 20 days before the election
  • a resident of your precinct on Election Day
  • not under court-ordered guardianship in which the court order revokes my right to vote;
  • have not been found by a court to be legally incompetent to vote;
  • have the right to vote because, if I have been convicted of a felony, my felony status has expired (been completed) or I have been discharged from my sentence
  • not legally incompetent

An ES&S AutoMark Voter Assist Terminal will be available at each precinct on Election Day and also for absentee voters. Adding the ES&S AutoMark ensures compliance with the federal Help America Vote Act (HAVA). HAVA requires that all polling locations be equipped with at least one disability-accessible voting machine.
