City of Farmington Government
Farmington has a Mayor-Council form of government with a full time City Administrator
who is responsible for the day-to-day administrative operations of the City.
City Council
The City Council has the primary responsibility of overseeing that the City exercises its
functions properly and within the laws that are imposed, but the Council cannot exercise
powers that it does not legally possess. The term of Mayor is for four years; the four
Councilmembers are elected for four-year terms in alternating years. Municipal elections
are held in November of even-numbered years, the same time as federal, state and
county elections.
City Attorney
The law firm of Campbell Knutson, P.A. represents the City of Farmington by advising the City Council and staff on municipal legal questions and undertaking prosecution matters.
City Administrator
The City Administrator is responsible to the City Council for the proper administration of all
affairs of the City. He is appointed by a majority vote of the City Council for an indefinite period
of time.
