There are several options for reusing and recycling old mattresses and box springs. Although they aren’t accepted at thrift stores, residents can take them to a local non-profit store in the Twin Cities called Bridging. Bridging accepts donations of quality, gently used furniture and household goods at its Bloomington location, 201 W 87th Street.

Donations can be dropped off at the facility at no charge, or schedule a pick-up from your home for a small fee at

Mattresses no longer in usable condition can be recycled. This option is a way to recover and recycle materials like metal, wood and textiles. If recycling is not an option, ask the new mattress deliverer if they dispose of old mattresses.

Curbside Cleanup days are coming up for Farmington residential customers. They may
dispose of large items and bulky household items that don’t fit in a garbage cart from April 21 through May 19.

For disposal options of items not included in the curbside collection, visit and search for the Green Guide. For more information about the city of Farmington’s Curbside Cleanup Days, visit
