Buckets of Hurricane Relief

The idea of helping a town hit by Hurricane Harvey came from a Thrivent Financial meeting where board members talked about adopting a small town in Texas. Mayor Todd Larson who serves on the board looked for a town that was similar in size to Farmington. He used Google maps and a few towns jumped out. He started calling the mayors of these towns and the Mayor of Port Aransas Charles Bujan answered the phone. As it turned out, Port Aransas, Texas needed a lot of help. Thrivent Financial and Pellicci’s Ace Hardware began working on relief bucks - five gallon buckets full of cleaning supplies for $25 each. The initial goal of 200 buckets was exceeded by over 300.

HurricaneBucketsThe community also donated new toasters, coffeemakers, microwaves, cookware, building supplies, and other essential items. Wayne Transports of Rosemount, donated a truck and driver for the 20-hour, 1,350-mile drive to Port Aransas.

Members of the Port Aransas community signed a newspaper article that was published by the Port Aransas South Jetty newspaper to thank Mayor Larson and the Farmington Community.

Thank you to the Farmington community for your donations and volunteer work!
