Fire

Farmington Fire logoThe Farmington Fire Department has a rich history, which can be traced back to 1873. Our earliest members were veterans of the Civil War who moved to Minnesota to begin new chapters in their lives in our fertile woods and farmlands. We are proud of our history, heritage, and record of service over the past 150 years! Generations of families have volunteered to be Farmington firefighters and we have members today whose families have served Farmington steadily since 1890.

The Dakota County Historical Society published Over the Years - Flames of Farmington, in 1992, with the permission of David Schreier who researched firefighting in Farmington from 1873-1928. Read the publication here: Over the Years - Flames of Farmington.

Today, the department has an authorized strength of 60 paid-on-call firefighters responding from two fire stations and protects 25,000 residents in approximately 80 square miles of the City of Farmington, the City of Empire and the Dakota County townships of Castle Rock and Eureka.
