Absentee Voting / Early Voting

Absentee Ballot Return:

Due to an Oct. 29 court ruling, absentee ballots are now due by mail by 8 p.m. on Nov. 3 (Election night) or delivered in person by 3 p.m. Nov. 3 (Election Day). Farmington still has 1,043 ballots out there, so please deliver your ballot in person to Farmington City Hall by Nov 3. There is a drive-up drop box in the City Hall parking lot, or bring your ballot inside to the front desk. Farmington City Hall is open Friday, Oct. 30, 8 a.m. - 4:30 p.m.; Saturday, Oct. 31, 10 a.m. - 3 p.m.; Monday, Nov. 2, 8 a.m. - 5 p.m. This is for voters who live within the Farmington city boundaries. If you live in a township, your ballot needs to be returned to the Western Service Center in Apple Valley or the government center in Hastings. If you live within the Lakeville city boundaries, deliver your ballot to Lakeville City Hall. Township and Lakeville residents SHOULD NOT BRING YOUR BALLOT TO FARMINGTON CITY HALL. Go to www.mnvotes.org to determine where your ballot needs to go.

COVID-19 and voting:
In an effort to prevent COVID-19 exposures to elections staff and throughout community locations, absentee voting (placing your ballot in a series of envelopes and sent through the mail) is recommended for the November 3 General Election. You can apply for an absentee ballot online at mnvotes.org or complete the application form below and return it by email or mail it to Farmington City Hall, 430 Third Street, Farmington, MN 55024.  Your ballot will be mailed to you starting September 18, 2020.  Absentee voting can also be done in person at City Hall.  If your ballot is mailed to you, you can return it in person to City Hall.

Absentee voting process:  Voter completes an application either online, through the mail, or in person.  Once the application is received, the ballot is placed in a series of envelopes and is given or mailed to the voter.  Once the voted ballot is returned to Farmington City Hall, it is processed by election staff two weeks prior to Election Day.

Early voting process:  Voter completes an application in person at Farmington City Hall, marks their ballot and places the ballot directly in the ballot counter.
