Absentee Voting / Early Voting

Absentee Ballot Return: 

Absentee ballots are due by mail by 8 p.m. on Nov 8, 2022, (Election night) or delivered in person to Farmington City Hall front desk by 3 p.m. Nov 8 (Election Day). Farmington City Hall is open Monday - Friday, 8 a.m. - 4:30 p.m.; Saturday, Nov 5, 10 a.m. - 3 p.m.; Monday, Nov 7, 8 a.m. - 5 p.m. This is for voters who live within the Farmington city boundaries. If you live in a township, your ballot needs to be returned to the Western Service Center in Apple Valley or the government center in Hastings. If you live within the Lakeville city boundaries, deliver your ballot to Lakeville City Hall. Township and Lakeville residents SHOULD NOT BRING YOUR BALLOT TO FARMINGTON CITY HALL. Go to www.mnvotes.org to determine where your ballot needs to go.

Absentee voting process:  Voter completes an application either online, through the mail, or in person.  Once the application is received, the ballot is placed in a series of envelopes and is given or mailed to the voter.  Once the voted ballot is returned to Farmington City Hall, it is processed by election staff one week prior to Election Day.


Early voting process:  Voter completes an application in person at Farmington City Hall, marks their ballot and places the ballot directly in the ballot counter.

Primary Election
Absentee Voting June 24 - Aug 8, 2022
Early Voting Aug 2 - 8, 2022

General Election
          Absentee Voting Sept. 23 - Nov 7, 2022
          Early Voting Nov 1 - 7, 2022

Absentee voting may be done in person or by mail.
Early voting must be done in person.

In person: Apply and vote at Farmington City Hall (430 Third St.) during office hours (Monday - Friday from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.). City Hall is open the Saturday prior to Election Day from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. and the Monday before Election Day from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

By mail: Apply early so you can mail back or deliver your ballot before Election Day. To vote by absentee, complete the absentee ballot application prior to Election Day. According to State Statute, a voter no longer needs a reason to vote absentee.

Absentee Ballot Lookup

The Absentee Ballot Lookup allows a voter to track where their ballot is in the process and when it has been successfully counted. In addition, helpful links to additional voter resources such as county auditor contacts and a listing of candidates appearing on voters' ballots is also provided. The Absentee Ballot Lookup can be accessed at mnvotes.org . To login to the Absentee Ballot Lookup voters must provide the following information:

  • First and last name (name must match voter's name entered on the absentee ballot application or voter registration).

  • Complete date of birth.

  • The identification number the voter used on the absentee ballot application.

Military and Overseas Voters

If you are in the military or outside the US, you can vote based on where you last lived in Minnesota. Your parent, spouse, brother, sister, or adult child can apply for you. Apply early! It is important to note that Military and Overseas voters have different absentee balloting procedures. Information for Military and Overseas voters is available at mnvotes.org.
